Private dining in Covent Garden: three spaces, from 26 seated to 150 standing.
Osteria by Bocconcino runs private events at 366 Strand, in the middle of the theatre district…
Three formats cover the range. A dedicated private dining room for up to 26 seated or 30 standing. A semi-private space for up to 40 seated or 50 standing. Full venue hire for up to 86 seated or 150 standing. A group can grow across all three without moving to a different kind of venue.
What sits behind all of them is a working Italian kitchen rather than a function room with catering attached. The pasta is made by hand, the grill runs through service, and the wine list is weighted to the Italian regions. Group menus run from three to five courses at fixed prices, with canapé receptions for events that start with drinks.
The three spaces
Private dining room, up to 26 seated
Enclosed and separate, with its own service team. Warm wood, soft lighting and Italian-inspired details, and the same kitchen as the main restaurant. It takes 26 seated or 30 standing, which covers most corporate dinners, milestone birthdays and private celebrations. Menus are built for the occasion rather than handed over as a fixed card. The room is not wheelchair accessible; where access is needed, the semi-private space on the ground floor is the alternative.
Semi-private dining, up to 40 seated
A dedicated area on the ground floor with the rest of the restaurant kept at arm's length. It takes 40 seated or 50 standing, and suits larger birthdays, corporate events, intimate weddings and seated dinners for parties between twenty and forty. Same bespoke menu structure as the private room, with the atmosphere of a full dining room around the table. Wheelchair accessible.
Exclusive venue hire, up to 86 seated
The whole restaurant, for 86 seated or 150 standing. Booked most often for weddings, corporate launches, end-of-year parties and large milestone birthdays. À la carte, set menus and fully bespoke event menus are all available, alongside the full bar and wine list. For full venue hire the events team can arrange a site visit before the booking is confirmed.
Group and private dining menus
Four options run as standard. Three courses at £55, three courses at £65, four courses at £75, and a reception canapé selection for events that open with drinks. Each is drawn from the regional Italian kitchen: handmade pasta, dishes from the grill, seasonal antipasti and Italian desserts.
Beyond the standard cards, menus can be built from scratch for the occasion, with specific dishes, wine pairings and celebration dessert presentations. Dietary requirements and allergies are handled at the planning stage rather than on the night. Seating plans, place cards and audio-visual setups are arranged on request.
What the bookings are used for
Birthdays for ten to twenty guests and corporate dinners for fifteen to twenty-six are the most frequent bookings in the private room. The semi-private space takes the larger birthdays and the seated corporate events. Full venue hire goes to weddings, company parties and launches.
Christenings, wedding rehearsal dinners, New Year's Eve celebrations and away days run across all three. Private lunches are available as well as dinners, and daytime slots are usually easier to secure at short notice than Friday and Saturday evenings.
Booking, minimum spend and lead times
Enquiries go through the form on this page or by phone on 020 7499 4510, and are usually answered within twenty-four hours on working days. Bookings are held with a deposit, with final guest numbers and menu choices confirmed closer to the date.
The spaces run on a minimum spend rather than a room hire fee, so the budget goes on food and drink rather than on the room itself. The level depends on the date, the time and the space, with Friday and Saturday evenings higher than weekday lunches, and is confirmed on enquiry. December books out well in advance, as do Saturday evenings through the year.
Private dining in Covent Garden: where Osteria fits
Covent Garden private dining splits three ways. There are the hotel function rooms, neutral and reliable, where the room has no relationship to the kitchen. There are the event spaces hired empty with catering brought in. And there are restaurants with rooms attached, where the food is the reason to book. Osteria sits in the third group, with the range as the difference: most restaurants in the area offer one room at one size, and a group that outgrows it has to start the search again.
